Canada has moved into top spot in the overall team competition at the Copa de las Americas tournament after solid second round play from Albin Choi and Corey Conners in Miami.
Choi, a Toronto native, fired the second lowest round of the day on the TPC Blue Monster Course. In his 4-under-par, second round 68, the North Carolina State junior notched seven birdies. Teammate Conners, of Listowel, Ont., also carded seven birdies and finished with a 3-under-par, 69. The Canadian squad currently sits at 14-over-par for the overall portion of the tournament, one stroke ahead of Argentina.
On the women’s side Brooke Henderson of Smiths Falls, Ont., posted a second round, 5-over-par, 77. She currently sits three strokes back of first place in the individual women's competition. Augusta James, of Bath, Ont., finished the day with a 4-over-par round of 76 and is currently sixth.
In the team competition, the Canadian women are currently tied for first with Argentina while the men are currently in third and trail Colombia by three strokes.
Canada has captured the overall championship at the Copa de las Americas on two occasions (2003 & 2005) since the biennial event began in 2003.
