Lincicome back to defend at 2012 CN Canadian Women's Open

Defending champion Brittany Lincicome headlines a list of five former champions who will compete in the 2012 CN Canadian Women's Open championship to be played August 20-26 at the Vancouver Golf Club.

Lincicome, a five-time winner on the LPGA Tour, will be joined by former winners Michelle Wie (2010), Suzann Pettersen (2009), Katherine Hull (2008) and Cristie Kerr (2006).

World number one Yani Tseng and Lydia Ko, the teenage New Zealand sensation who is the number one ranked amateur player in the world, confirmed their entry into the event last week. For Tseng, a five-time major champion, it will be a homecoming of sorts as she returns to the site of her first professional victory, having captured a CN Canadian Women’s Tour event at The Vancouver Golf Club in 2007.

Canadian LPGA Tour players Lorie Kane of Charlottetown, P.E.I. and Alena Sharp of Hamilton, Ont. as well as LPGA Tour rookies Maude-Aimee LeBlanc of Sherbrooke, Que. and Rebecca Lee-Bentham of Toronto will also be on hand in Vancouver this August, looking to become the first Canadian to win an LPGA Tour event on home soil since Jocelyne Bourassa in 1973.

Canada’s National Amateur Team will also be represented as Team Canada athletes Jisoo Keel of Coquitlam, B.C. and 14-year old Brooke Henderson of Smiths Falls, Ont. have already earned exemptions by winning the first two events on the CN Canadian Women’s Tour. She wil will become the youngest ever player to compete in Canada's National Women's championship.

Additional competitors including notable LPGA stars and Canadians as well as tournament exemptions  will be announced in the coming weeks for what is expected to be a 156-strong player field, competing for the $2-million purse.

The 2012 CN Canadian Women’s Open will help to raise money for the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, the official charitable beneficiary of the CN Miracle Match campaign in 2012.
