Nick Taylor's professional career picked up a little more speed Wednesday when he won a Vancouver Golf Tour event in Pitt Meadows, B.C.
The 24-year-old from Abbotsford, B.C., who turned pro in 2010 but was slow to find the same success as he did in his standout amateur days, birdied the 18th hole at Swan-e-set Resort to post a one-shot victory over Creighton Honeck of the United States.
He shot two-under-par 70 Wednesday in cool, rainy and windy conditions to finish the 54-hole event, considered one of the mini-tour's majors, at nine under. Taylor, once the No. 1 amateur in the world, collected $7,500.
The victory continues a run of good form that has produced a tie for seventh place at the Canadian Tour's season opener in Victoria last Sunday and a victory in April at the All-American Tour Championship, a mini-tour event. The latter got him into a Nationwide Tour event, for his third career start on the circuit. He's also had eight starts on the top-tier PGA Tour.
